CHRIS GOLLE | PAINTING WINNER
"My work aims to explore and distort the boundary between physical and internal spaces. I present everyday scenes gone slightly askew, hovering somewhere between reality and fantasy, and where a strange familiarity and quiet stillness combine to produce a sense of the uncanny."
CLAIRE JACKSON | SCULPTURE WINNER
"My practice is predominantly based around the wonders of science and nature. I am very much interested in the curiosity and intensity of the sensation experienced by the viewer through the use of an unfamiliarity and surreal medium. I start my sculptures with a certain structural idea in mind, with a particular notion or concern that I wish to address, but, inevitably, the polymorph medium takes on a life of its own when i create my organic detailed forms."
MOSES POWERS | PHOTOGRAPHY WINNER
"One of my favourite past times is rummaging around in junk markets, looking for treasure. I love the feeling of discovering something that has its own sense of history.
This inspires me to make work using objects that hold symbolic value, giving them a new lease of life, creating atmosphere in a new context. Making art allows me to express ideas in a visual way where words would normally fail me."
CARLOS FRANKLIN | MIXED MEDIA WINNER
'My work is about foreignness: being abroad, being out of the disciplines borders, being peripheral. I’m inspired often by the meanings of traveling: travel as evasion and/or escape, travel to meet and to reach other cultures -at the same time the subconscious refuses the own one."
